Windows 95 or 98:
Double click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. Right mouse click on the [C:] drive. Select properties from the drop down box options.
A dialog box named [C:] Properties will appear (Verify that the free space is at least 100MB, if not remove any unneeded documents or applications and empty the Recycle Bin. To empty recycle bin, right mouse click on the desktop icon and follow select appropriately. If your Drive does not have enough room to operate swapping files, it will crash eventually). Select the Tools tab on the upper left corner.
The error checking status should indicate it has been not longer than 30 days since the last check for errors.
Select the check now button from the " Error-checking status " section. A dialog box labeled Scandisk will appear. Select the
Standard option from the type of test section. Directly below the thorough option select Automatically fix errors.
Select the start option in the lower right corner. When Scandisk has completed a dialog box will appear giving you information on the C: drive. Select close.
After Scandisk has been running for a while (approx 15 min) a dialog box may appear just like the one below. If it does select "No".
